Sharing A Talk

I don't necessarily agree with every little detail, but he has a very good point: There is a lot we can learn from religion without necessarily becoming religious.

Wouldn't the natural evolution, or rather the seemingly best evolution, be that we dissect religion for its good things and toss out the bad/unneccessary things? Just removing religion and leave void space behind... I don't think anyone expects or wants that. Obviously it's been an important part of society so you have to phase it out replacing it with more modern and effective things.

Just removing religion and leaving void space behind is, indeed, what he speaks out against, and it's what many atheists in the United States are doing. Understandably, really - when it's more of a direct conflict between atheists and religious people, it's easy to vilify the other side entirely.

I don't think we have this problem in Sweden to the same degree, given our more soft out-phasing of religion, as opposed to the "Us vs. Them" mentality dominating the American atheist movement.

It's amazing how extremely secularized we've managed to become, without anyone noticing the change. Maybe it's easier to leave religion behind if you don't draw attention to it?
